San Clemente State Beach Campout!

Sunday, October 16th through Friday, October 21st, 2011

Southern California beaches have something to offer any time of year.....and fun times are guaranteed if you come camp with HSC this October at San Clemente State Beach. San Clemente is a suburban town in southernmost Orange County, halfway between LA and San Diego. (Before or after the campout, trips to Disneyland, Legoland, or San Diego Zoo - all within an hour of camp - could make a great family trip.) San Clemente is known as a surfing mecca; Trestles, one of the top surf spots in the world, is just south of San Clemente State Beach where we'll be camping. Our group site is up on the bluffs where we'll enjoy ocean and sunset views from our kitchens. It's a five or so minute walk down the the trail to the beach below, where we can enjoy the sand and surf. October average temps in San Clemente offer lows in the 50's and highs in the 70's with a water temperature of 63. (Bring your bathing suits, wetsuits, and sweatshirts.)

(Please note: the beach is not far from our campsite, but is far enough away that parents will likely only let their kids who are regularly on their own go by themselves; you would not be able to see your kids on the beach from camp. And it is a bit of a steep, long-ish hill, so will be a little more of a trudge for those with little ones and/or lots of stuff, but strollers be used on the paved trail.)

As a beach/suburban campout, we can enjoy some amenities that our wilderness campouts don't offer. Of course there'll be hot showers and flush toilets, but there'll also be opportunities for our older kids to walk to civilization, and there'll be grocery and convenience stores aplenty, to make packing for this campout stress-free. A mile and half down the beach trail from camp is the San Clemente pier for fishing, or the restaurant there for sunset appetizers and clam chowder for parents who want to partake. The just-mentioned beach trail is a five mile round trip, dog-friendly, gravel trail along the beach, perfect for walks, runs, or biking. But as most of you know, the best part of our campout will be all of us - ourselves and our children - and our friends, old and new, hanging out and doing life together at camp for five days and nights.

To join us, please send a Liability Release Form and a check, made out to HSC, for $40 per person over the age of two, to your most amazing camp hostess and camper extraordinaire:
Maura Mikulec
34571 Calle Rosita
Capistrano Beach, CA 92624

Important fine print stuff: Members of HSC and those staying all week will receive priority registration if the campout is filling up, so you may want to get current on your HSC membership. Cancellations must be made by October 1st in order to receive a refund and may then only be given if we are able to fill your space. If you are bringing children not your own, you will need to send in a separate liability release form for them, signed by their parent or guardian. Please contact Maura if you're hoping to bring an RV or sleep-in vehicle of any kind. There are size limits on RVs. Your camping fees include one vehicle or pre-approved RV.
